Those visiting this site should know that on Thursday, Feburary 9, at about 7:30 in the evening, my mother Judith passed away at her home in Rochester, Minnesota. She had been diagnosed with a particularily virulent and far-reaching brain tumor the day before Thanksgiving, 2005, and her doctors at the time gave her five months to live, though she had apparently been functioning with the tumor for a number of years. She died after less than three months, and less than 18 hours before Elliott and I were to arrive in Rochester for what would be only her third chance to see her grandchild. She had been looking forward to seeing Eliott with great anticipation for many weeks, so it was a particular tragedy to lose her so soon. However, she was in little or no pain during her last three months and was almost constantly surrounded by family and friends. She will be mightily missed by all who knew her.

Yes, eight months have passed since I last updated the site. In July 2006, we moved to Germany and in September, started new jobs. Elliott has grown up and up. Some weeks we think he looks totally different than the previous one. He is walking, running, going up and down stairs, climbing onto chairs, doing daredevil stunts that have his parents' hearts in their mouths.
Some day I will fill in the gaps here, but for now, here's the NEW, current, Elliott -- the 2007 model.

Elliott continues to grow, and now has started saying not only single words but two-word sentences.
His vocabulary includes the following (among others):
mommy, daddy, mal (from noch mal, or more), hello, ball, auto, oom (for oben, or up), da (meaning there), meine (mine), ba-boom,
vow-wow (for dogs or anything resembling them), bobo for baby, a-a for poop, ow-ah (the German ouch),
auf (a German command meaning open, off, and a host of other things), ooo-ooo-aaah-aaah for monkey,
Ma (Max) and Bo are playmates at daycare; hooee is what he calls his swing;
and recently: appetite, butter, amen, auch (also, as in, Mommy auch!), and a sort of eweeah sound that means Elliott.
